Reliability and redundancy are the main drivers for IKM’s Subsea designs. The fully electrically powered Merlin system is well positioned within the ROV industry due to its simple structure, high uptime and redundancy.
The high reliability of Merlin technology is achieved by removing components from the ROV itself, and placing them to the surface in a controlled air conditioned environment. In this way, no power converters, advanced driver cards or transformers for the thrusters are on subsea environment. The system is also governed by increased uptime compared to other systems on the market, because it can operate with three thrusters out of function, since each of the 8 thrusters is independently controlled from the surface.
In addition, the simple composite open frame of Merlin significantly reduces the drag force and in the same time provides easy access for maintenance of the system.
